Why was this engine not used in the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice? The base model i4 is fucking gutless and this seems like it could easily have fit and 242hp and 232ft lb of torque would have been fantastic fun in a Sky/Solstice instead of the miserable 177hp and 173ft lb of torque in the base model, which uses a high-compression naturally-aspirated 2.5l LE5 that requires premium (!!!) and gets utter shit fuel economy. The LY7 gets better fuel economy in a goddamn Buick Rendezvous, imagine how it would do in the lithe little Sky!
Fuck’s sake, GM. Swing and a miss with anything not-Redline.

Not a very large engine bay. Are you forgetting the turbo versions?

anything not-Redline
And having looked around in the engine of my mom’s Sky, then looking around the engine bay of a Rendezvous... no. They could have fit the LY7 in there pretty easily.

Because pre-bankruptcy GM.
Fun fact: the Redline/GXP got better MPG than the N/A versions did.

I’m really not surprised. I wish my mom could have waited a little longer to save up for a Redline but the PT Cruiser was quickly giving up the ghost and she wanted a Sky :/

an engine would not have fixed a garbage GM product silly

Because the 2.0T is more powerful?

The high feature V6 is irrelevant. The 2.0t is a far superior engine and either it or the LT engine should replace it. You could kill off every V6 gm makes and nobody would miss it.

She couldn’t have traded up? The Stage 2 kit that bumped it to ~320hp IIRC wasn’t too expensive either.

I was referring to the base model.

I was talking about the base model. Did you even read what I wrote? The 2.0t is a fine motor but the base NA engine is stupid, inefficient, and wasteful and would be better either not existing or replaced with a HF v6.

Bought used last year. Weren’t many options for cheap Sky’s, sadly.

Gotcha. I thought you meant she bought it new.

Sorry, missed that.

Because you are talking about the base trim for people just wanting to commute around in a convertable. The Turbo version is a thing.

Just seems like such a lackluster trim level for such a sporty-looking car never should have happened.

if you do it , replace the timing chains before fitting
